| Jackie Chan Stuntmaster | PS1 | 2000 | Abandoned | Genuine fucking trash - 3/10. One star for low-poly Jackie Chan, one star for the banging soundtrack, and one star out of pity. Awful, awful, platforming - Jackie seems to be hard-coded to catch on edges, miss ledge grabs, punch the air, and fuck up jumps. This came out 4 years after Crash Bandicoot at the tail-end of the PSX's lifespan and it's half the game Crash is - fuck you!!!! This game makes me so mad. |
| Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back | PS1 | 1997 | 19/07/2025 | Good game, very good game. Not as prone to stupid camera issues as the first one, kicks Jackie Chan Stuntmaster's ass too. Some fucked up levels however: Ruination, Bee-Having, Piston it Away.....get bent. One of the Naughty Dog guys said they had to change a death animation in Japan because of a serial killer that was active at the time that would position victims in the same manner as dead Crash? |
| Harvester | PC (DOSBox) | 1996 | 25/07/2025 | This is a really strange game, but I enjoyed it so much - 'Pleasantville' by way of 'Blue Velvet'? Maybe some 'Night Trap' by way of 'Myst'? Fits squarely into the 90s/early-00s edginess arms race where games like 'Mortal Kombat', 'Night Trap', 'Phantasmagoria', and probably 'Doom' to an extent were pushing the boundaries of the time (and in Harvester's case - boundaries now). I am fairly inured to the horrors of horror at this point, I've been in the SOV slums of the 90s and saw some utter nonsense, but there were parts of the game that had me going "wow": a literal baby's eyes getting popped out by insects, child molestation, cannibalism, BDSM, child abuse, the list goes on. Now none of this really makes a good game at the end of the day, and in fact if you had any of these elements in an otherwise milquetoast game it may very well sour the whole experience - but considering the entire """experience""" here is in unmitigated bad taste you can only really be digustingly enthralled. I would recommend this as a one-and-done'er. It's content is so over the top and in all honesty - downright funny - that it genuinely is worth playing, even just once to see the insanity yourself. |
| Sonic Adventure | Dreamcast | 1998 | 26/10/2025 | Got a Dreamcast with the GDEmu ODE - decided to play on DC after reading this page here, check it out!! Game is pretty good, I haven't played a Sonic game since Heroes/Riders/Shadow on my PS2 and I did enjoy it, wee bit janky but the soundtrack killed; give this a listen and tell me you're not vibrating out your seat. I much prefer this turn of the century cool-dude Sonic to any other iteration - I saw a tweet once that said Sonic was cooler when he had a clear hip-hop influence, and yeah that's about right. I'd recommend this game, I only cleared the Sonic route, wasn't too interested in playing Tails or Amy or that. Dunno when I'll get round to 2. Sidebar, but the DC is actually a really cool console - I liked seeing the Chao's and that on the VMU, controller is......not great though. |
| Silent Hill | PS1 | 1999 | 02/11/2025 | Not dissapointed in the slightest, fantastic game - lot's to love. Pushed my wee PS1 to it's limits in some sections, cool to see a console pushed to breaking in service of a stellar game. Perfect length as well, in and out in like 6-7 hours. Soundtrack is nuts, end credits song for Good+ goes so hard. Atmosphere top notch, will defo be playing 2 and beyond at some point. |
